Esprit Clothing was started in 1968 by Susie and Doug Tompkins. Selling homemade clothes at the back of their
station wagon while traveling through California, Susie and Doug started a worldwide business. Despite an unconventional
method of selling - from the back seat of a vehicle, their very first customers were delighted by the quality clothing that
they sold which ultimately came to be known as Esprit apparel.
